Ruhr-Universität Bochum

Ruhr-University Bochum (RUB) is one of Germany’s leading research universities with a growing international reputation. Its institutional strategy called “Research Campus RUB” develops RUB’s unique meritocratic academic culture by merging cutting-edge research with advanced, research-oriented study and teaching.RUB is a campus university uniquely combining the entire range of major scientific fields in one location with 20 departments, more than 5.600 employees and more than 43.000 students. The following departments are involved in the implementation of NanoBat: The chair of Analytical Chemistry and Centre for Electrochemical Sciences at the department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. The Center for Electrochemical Sciences (CES) is regarded as a Center of Excellence in Germany and its goal is to foster internationally competitive research in modern electrochemistry. The centre is fully outfitted with state-of the art equipment required to study in detail various areas including electrocatalysis, energy conversion, molecular nanostructures and electrochemical energy storage.

In NanoBat RUB is involved in several Work Packages and focusing on the formation of the SEI and changes in the SEI properties during charging/discharging cycles which will be evaluated by means of SECM based techniques from the micrometer to 200 nm dimensions in order to evaluate local inhomogeneity potentially causing defects.
